MOTORCYCLE TOUR IN SOUTH TYROL CROSSING EIGHT AMAZING PASSES
This is one of the most spectacular motorcycle tours in South Tyrol! You will cross eight amazing passes riding through the Alps: Campolongo Pass, Gampen Pass, Gardena Pass, Jaufenpass, Karerpass, Mendel Pass, Nigerpass, and Pordoi Pass. The tour starts from the exit "Chiusa Val Gardena-Klausen Gröden" on the Brenner motorway and after passing by the two lovely cities of Bolzano and Merano, you will then face these 8 great Alpine passes:
Pordoi Pass Passo Pordoi 2,239 meters a.s.l. :
it is located on the border between Alto Adige and Veneto regions. Following this motorcycle tour, you will cross Arabba and then reaching Canazei. Narrow hairpin bends lead to the summit surrounded by breathtaking views of two of the most spectacular mountain ranges in the Dolomites: the beautiful Marmolada and the Piz Boè. At the top of Pordoi Pass, there is a cable car service working between the pass and Sass Pordoi, a wide plateau that forms here, in an altitude of 2,863 meters a.s.l., the most beautiful natural terrace in the Dolomites of South Tyrol.
Gardena Pass Passo Garden 2,136 meters a.s.l. :
the road climbs up from Corvara in Badia on one of the slopes of the gigantic and spectacular Sella mountain group located right in the heart of the Dolomites. No other Dolomitic pass is able to offer such impressive and awesome landscapes!
Jaufenpass (Passo di Monte Giovo) 2,094 meters a.s.l. :
the 31 km long road that will lead you to the pass connects two beautiful valleys in South Tyrol: the Val Passiria and the Isarco Valley. Climbing up to the pass on this scenic serpentine road you will enjoy north the imposing Ötztal, Jaufenspitz, and Ratschingstal Alps.
Campolongo Pass Passo di ampolongo 1,875 meters a.s.l. :
it connects the villages of Corvara in Badia and Arabba in region Veneto. Together with Sella, Gardena, and Pordoi passes, it is the fourth pass of the Sellaronda circuit. Once a year in July, when the "Sellaronda bike day" is held, the Sellaronda circuit is closed to traffic.
Karerpass Passo di Costalunga 1752 meters a.s.l. :
it is the southernmost pass of this motorbike tour and from the winding road crossing Karerpass, you can enjoy beautiful panoramas over the Catinaccio Group, one of the most characteristic massifs of the Dolomites.
Nigerpass Passo Nigra 1.688 meters a.s.l.:
You will begin climbing up to this Alpine pass from Carezza and the road will entirely lead you along the Catinaccio massif offering motorcyclists fantastic scenic views over this imposing mountain group and even over the more distant Latemar group.
Gampen Pass 1.518 meters a.s.l. Passo Palade:
it links the upper Val di Non and the Adige Valley with Merano, one of the most picturesque villages in South Tyrol. It is a very easy and relaxing climb up to the pass by motorcycle but the downhill section is rather winding with great fun for the bikers!
Mendel Pass 1,362 meters a.s.l. Passo della Mendola:
it is a well-known pass, due to the fact that in the 19th century it was one of the most famous and appreciated tourist resorts in the entire Italian Alps! Also, it was here, where the Austro-Hungarian emperor Franz Josef and his wife Elisabeth, Queen of Hungary, (the legendary Sissi played by Romy Schneider in the namesake film) used to spend a lot of time.
